Vancouver Day 15 Location Tour #2
Well, today was going to be the second location tour held by Creation which I had also booked for because last year we had a few issues with road closures and we missed out on a few locations. Luckily, on Thursday’s tour Russ “Movie God” Hamilton told us that today’s tour would cover a different variety of locations, which we were all looking forward to.
We started off heading out to a location we covered Thursday’s tour, which was where the teaser was filmed for the episode Jensen directed 7.3
Then we proceeded to head to Maple Ridge near Langley to visit Crowley’s Lab which we also covered on Thursday’s tour. That was the end of the similarities between the two tours.
We were going to have lunch at this location, however when we had arrived the caterer hadn’t arrived with the food. So we waited a while in case he showed up. Russ got a call, and before we knew it we were back on the bus. We were headed out to Langley to observe something that had never been witnessed by a locations tour before.
Russ told us we would be heading to a “future” location which was being surveyed by the tech crew so they can take measurements for set & props, cherry pickers, camera angles, lighting etc, in preparation for filming. We would actually see all techs doing their thing in live action! This was going to be pretty cool, just knowing that we would be the first fans to see this sort of thing. Russ said it was highly unlikely that we would ever get the opportunity to see it again so it was a bit of a privilege.
As our bus rolled up to the location, so did the crew bus... We were taking shots of the crew disembarking from their bus as they were taking shots of us getting off our bus. The crew all waved to us, & we all waved back.
Jim Michaels came over to welcome us to the set and talked a little about Russ & about what they were going to be doing there today. The crew’s bus driver also came over & chatted to us about how his company supplies most of the buses seen on the show, and that the bus he was driving today was also the bus in “Final Destination 5” pretty cool bit of trivia, and a fine looking bus.
Russ gathered us & explained that the food had now finally arrived back out Crowley’s Lab, but there were no plates or cutlery etc so we had to stall a bit before we could head back there for lunch. We finally made it back there for lunch. The soup was cold, but that yummy deserts made up for it big time!!
Once we finished lunch Russ gave us another surprise. We were headed to the back-lot also known as the old “Watchmen” set. Supernatural was going to be filming there in the next couple of weeks. He said he would try to get us in for a look if it was possible but mentioned that there was a crew prepping to film there so it wasn’t any guarantee we could get in.
As we started on our way, Russ got a call from his crew, telling him there was a fire at the back-lot. Russ went into work mode making calls & trying determine the extent of the damage and to get contingencies happening. You could see he was stressed but tried very hard not to show it.
Russ, told us there was a change of plans, and that we would be heading out to a live set where the crew were almost finished filming. It was over at Burnaby just across the road from the studio. A few blocks away from the back-lot. So off we headed. There were road closures & fire trucks everywhere, so we had to take an alternative route as we could see the smoke billowing through the distance.
By the time we got to the live set, the crew was done and all that was left was, a fake building development sign, and a few no parking signs by the road. As we drove by the studio we could see the crew unloading some of the trucks, we couldn’t stop at the studio but we did wave hello to the security guard. LMAO
Our final stop was Bobby’s wrecking yard. We got to go in and take a few pics & look around.
It was a pretty stressful day for Russ, having to deal with the fire, and with a bus load of Supernatural fans who were a little peeved about all the mishaps on this tour. Had it all gone to plan it would have been incredible. I felt bad for those who hadn’t done Thursday’s tour because they missed out on so much.
As we were all on the bus on the way back to the Sheraton Wall Centre, Russ decided to share some information with us about up-coming filming. He said because this tour was such a flop, he would tell us where filming was going to be over the next couple of days so that we could venture out on our own and observe. He did ask us to be discreet about it and that if we did show up to be respectful and not do anything that would distract the crew from doing their job.
They were going to be in Fort Langley, at the Fort Langley Community Hall the next 2 days filming day & evening indoors & outdoors.
After getting back to the hotel, Russ apologised for the events that screwed up our tour, but hoped we still had a great time. In my opinion, a day on with Russ “Movie God” Hamilton is always a good time!!
cheerful
It was a bit of a let down from the previous tour, but what's to come in the next couple of reports will more than make up for it. Sorry I'm taking so long with the pics, but there is a lot happening here atm. The wait will be worth it I promise ;)
